About Odd Fellows Home

The laying of the corner stone at the Odd Fellows Home took place on October 8, 1890.  Further expansions which included addition of more rooms and an infirmary brought the total number of sleeping rooms to 120. Construction of the Odd Fellows Home began in 1890 and the first building with the capacity of fifty-two residents was dedicated on June 22, 1892 in an elaborate ceremony which garnered citywide support and national attention.

The Odd Fellows Home was incorporated on October 28, 1898.

Since that time, a new building was erected and dedicated in 1990 on beautiful grounds overlooking Worcester. It is a 100 bed, state of the art facility where today we offer comprehensive, sub-acute and rehabilitation services with individualized care plans.

Our highly trained staff is committed to providing the very best services to our residents and continuing our 117 year legacy of providing quality, compassionate care dedicated to the tenets of Friendship, Love and Truth.

The Odd Fellows Home of Massachusetts, Inc. is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 Organization.

About the Independent Order of Odd Fellows

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is an altruistic fraternal organization originating in England in the 1700’s with the advent of service organizations for the trades. Although the exact origin of the name Odd Fellows is uncertain, one explanation is that their commitment to altruistic and charitable acts rendered them less common in the community hence the name.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows as we know it today began in Baltimore, Maryland on April 26, 1819 when Thomas Wildey and four members of the Order from England founded the Washington Lodge No. 1. Several more lodges were established, and in 1824, the “Grand Lodge of the United States” now termed “The Sovereign Grand Lodge,” was separated from the Grand Lodge of Maryland.

The first lodge in Massachusetts, Massachusetts Lodge No. 1 was self-instituted on March 26, 1820 in Boston. A charter was granted May 18, 1823 by the Grand Lodge of the United States. Prior to this recognition, it had acted with the powers of a Grand Lodge and authorized the institution of the Siloam Lodge. Since then, the Lodges of Massachusetts have had a long history of revival and consolidation. While there have been 244 different numbers given out over the years, today, The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, located in Worcester, coordinates the activities of 35 active Lodges throughout the state, providing relief and support to members of the community through many charitable endeavors.
